Information on Pool Leaks
- A swimming pool will naturally lose some water due to evaporation, splash out and backwash waste water
- All swimming pools, new or old, may develop leaks over time due to ground movement, leaky seals, cracked skimmer plates or returns, or holes and tears in a vinyl liner caused by faulty cleaning equipment, toys, animals and insects.
- In an average size pool of 20 feet by 40 feet a one inch loss of water per day is equal to approximately 370 gallons of water – TOO MUCH!
- An un-repaired hole the size of a half of a pencil tip can result in hundreds of gallons of water loss per day.
- Len’s Rule: an inch a week is not a leak BUT if you are adding two or more inches of water to your pool per week, you may have a leak!
